◼︎ Our patients
Caring for our community.
When we started negotiations in January 2026, we launched a survey for patients and community members — over 1,000 responses and counting — to learn how, together, we can elevate women’s and family health at Magee.
◼︎ What the community told us
Two overwhelming asks.
“More time with nurses”
“Better postpartum care, including paid parental leave”
◼︎ How We REsponded
What we’re doing about it.
So we’ve proposed that UPMC implement evidence-based nurse-to-patient ratio standards that will allow for more time with our patients at the bedside and more postpartum support for parents.
In fact, we’re not waiting for UPMC to agree on postpartum support — Magee nurses are leading the charge for 18 weeks’ Paid Parental Leave in Allegheny County. We worked with a coalition of community organizations to get the policy considered by the County Board of Health.
